How to Create and Assign Learning Targets

Getting Started

Learning Targets can be created at the Course or Topic level of a Course. To add Learning Targets at the Course level, select Learning Targets at the top of the screen.

To add or assign Learning Targets at the Topic level, navigate to the Topic level of a Course.

Creating a Learning Target

There are three ways to create a Learning Target in Embarc.

Option 1: Learning Target BY Standard

Learning Target By Standard is the best option for you if you have not yet written learning targets for the course standards. In this option, curriculum authors select a standard and then write the learning target.

  1. From either the Course or Topic level, select New Learning Target By Standard.

2. Then, select the Standard you would like to use to create the Learning Target.

3. Write your Learning Target in the space provided and scroll to the bottom of the page to click Save Learning Target.

4. Embarc will let you know that the Learning Target was successfully saved. Then, continue writing learning targets for this standard, view learning targets that have already been created for this standard, or save and move on to another standard.

Option 2: Learning Target FROM Standard

Learning Target From Standard is the best option for you if you want to simply align your course to standards and/or to quickly create learning targets for a course. With this option the exact Standard language is copied into a Learning Target- and can be edited if necessary.

This option can only be performed by selecting Learning Targets from the top of the Course page.

  1. Select New Learning Target From Standard.

  2. Select the Standard or Standards you would like to use as Learning Targets. The option to Select All is available. Click Save.

Note: You can check or uncheck the Include Standard ID as part of new Learning Target option.  The Standard ID is the group of numbers and letters that appears before the Standard language.

3. The new Learning Target will appear and can be edited. Click here for a help article and video on assigning learning targets when you are ready to assign these learning targets to a topic.

Option 3: New Learning Target

New Learning Target is the best option for you if you have already created learning targets. In this option, curriculum authors write a Learning Target and then align it to a Standard.
