Activities and Lesson Plans

Activities and Lesson Plans

Activities play an important role in the Embarc lesson planner. This article will outline the difference between the two features- and explain how they work together within the Embarc platform.

Activities

Activities are student learning experiences that capture instructional content and best practices in the curriculum. These do not change year to year, unless necessary. They are housed within the curriculum feature at the topic level of Embarc, as they are aligned with learning targets. If your district plans to utilize the lesson planning feature, activities are the main component of a lesson plan (and make it simple!).

  •  The purpose is to incorporate the details of what a teacher does, what students do plus which learning targets, standards, and links to instructional content

  • Teachers can select these in their lesson plans as the “meat” of instruction

Lesson Plans

Lesson plans combine your already created learning targets, activities, and attachments for a specific day and (potentially) group of students allowing for greater differentiation. While the Curriculum feature organizes your content by unit and topic, the lesson planner allows for a more finite application.

LESSON PLANS

  • Created at the Curriculum level

  • Capture the best practices to provide a learning experience for students

  • Integrate all resources for that learning in one place (textbook, online resources, teacher created, etc.)

  • Pulls into the Lesson Planner

  • Do NOT need to be re-created each year (minor revisions)

  • Created in the Classroom function

  • Populated with ACTIVITIES that are already created at the Curriculum level

  • Allow educators to specify considerations for that year's student population

  • Archived yearly with your Class

Once you have created activities that house individual student learning experiences and curricular content, you are ready to utilize the lesson planner in Embarc. The lesson plan feature allows educators to attach learning targets, activities, and attachments (see image below) to a specific date. This creates a classroom specific curriculum road map and is accessed through the Classroom portion of Embarc, and requires educators to first create a class, as well as activities for best use. See the bottom of this article for links to related help documentation.
